Antique Chinese LANTERN STANDS
- A pair of Antique Chinese LANTERN STANDS of lacquered Elmwood each comprising a pair of horizontal bars simply carved to form Feet joined in parallel by two bars horizontally concealed beneath a pair of sloped Aprons with curvilinear lower edge; inserted centrally into the pair of Feet is a vertical oblong Frame grooved on inner and outer edges of both sides, this Frame supported on both sides by pairs rising Spandrels carved in grooved curvilinear openwork; an inner fixed like horizontal Rail divides the Frame into a lower one-third enclosing a panel of carved openwork of serial lozenge-form and an upper two-thirds with stepped groove to inner Stiles in which slides a loose transverse base Rail to which is fixed centrally the lower end of a vertical round Pole that passes centrally through the upper Frame Rail, upper end supporting a square Cap board with further support from four evenly spaced hanging Spandrels of carved curvilinear form; hung from the Cap board on all four sides are Aprons carved with curvilinear lower edge and floral grooving, the upper edge protruded and bevelled; a Lantern-Frame of four vertical Stiles joined in box form by like horizontal Rails at top and base is inserted into the Cap boad, upper terminals carved as simple capitals; lacquered red overall. - Dimensions each Lantern Stand overall (lowered Pole) approximately - Width 10.5 Depth 14 Height 53.5 (Cap-board) 68.25 (Terminal) inches. - The Origin of this pair of Lantern Stands is China, indicated Shanxi Province and the Age more than one hundred years old indicated the 19th Century. - The lantern stands come with a certificate of antiquity confirming authenticity. The certificate of antiquity was provided by the vendor when the lanterns were originally purchased. A screenshot of the certificate has been included for reference.
